Likely, the problem is with the way you set PulseAudio. And, from experience I know pulse (and its modules) is not easy to handle. If you really want Gnome, I would have suggested a fresher installation, pre-documented because there's _no_ reason for PulseAudio not to work if the card is up

I half agree on this : Gnome is a kind of Unix badass king

. Not only it's too complicated to package (too modular, patch here and there) but it's a growing pain even for long time users. Seen the issue on #dropline irc channel few hours ago

<Church> saxa: it's bashing of what gnome has become in terms of needed extra work to build it to work as intended :(
<Church> it's not simple ./configure ; make ; make install for most of gnome stuff .. it's patch this, patch that, revert that patch, work on this patch, customise this, use these patches/customisations for this release aswell, as nothing accepted upstream and so on and on
<saxa> to be honest sometimes I think if really it needs to be so complicated
<saxa> and sooooo many small pieces
<saxa> and why this folk there just doesnt join the whole thing into few big tarballs
<saxa> instead of having so much control which makes our life just harder
<saxa> :(
Nonetheless,...it's still free
