scheda wireless broadcom non riconosciuta

Se avete problemi con l'installazione e la configurazione di Slackware64 postate qui. Non usate questo forum per argomenti che trattano la Slackware32 o generali... per quelli usate rispettivamente il forum Slackware e Gnu/Linux in genere.

Regole del forum
1) Citare sempre la versione di Slackware64 usata, la versione del Kernel e magari anche la versione della libreria coinvolta. Questi dati aiutano le persone che possono rispondere.
2) Per evitare confusione prego inserire in questo forum solo topic che riguardano appunto Slackware64, se l'argomento è Slackware32 o generale usate rispettivamente il forum Slackware o Gnu/Linux in genere.
3) Leggere attentamente le risposte ricevute
4) Scrivere i messaggi con il colore di default, evitare altri colori.
5) Scrivere in Italiano o in Inglese, se possibile grammaticalmente corretto, evitate stili di scrittura poco chiari, quindi nessuna abbreviazione tipo telegramma o scrittura stile SMS o CHAT.
6) Appena registrati è consigliato presentarsi nel forum dedicato.

La non osservanza delle regole porta a provvedimenti di vari tipo da parte dello staff, in particolare la non osservanza della regola 5 porta alla cancellazione del post e alla segnalazione dell'utente. In caso di recidività l'utente rischia il ban temporaneo.

questo problema ce l'ho su un dell latitude e5500 che non è mio, e su cui ho installato la versione 13.37. I dati relativi a questo pc sono questi:

Per sicurezza ricompila module-init-tools.

ho scaricato e installato i pacchetti kernel e kernel firmware:

upgradepkg --install-new kernel-huge-3.2.13-x86_64-1.txz

upgradepkg --install-new kernel-firmware-20120202git-noarch-1.txz
dopo di che ho scaricato, scompattato e compilato il module-init-tools:

cd module-init-tools-3.16
 ./configure && make && make install

ed ho quindi dato un lilo -v dopo averlo aggiornato alla versione 23.2 dellla current altrimenti con il nuovo kernel mi dava un fatal... ho quindi riavviato ma la spia continua ad essere spenta e il wicd continua a non trovare alcuna scheda audio. Anche il risultato dell'lspci è rimasto immutato

Ma tu sei sicuro che la tua wireless sia una broadcom? Come lo sai? Perché su internet, oltre al link che hai citato tu, ce ne sono altri che dicono che il Dell Latitude e550 monta anche schede intel.

Hai la possibilità di disabilitare il bluetooth da BIOS, tanto per fare una prova?

Sì, posso farlo.
E posso fare anche altro, allora: dal bios ho la possibilità di assegnare l'unico pulsante alla sola attivazione/disattivazione del wireless o del bluethoot (oppure assegnarlo per entrambi come di default). Io ora l'ho riservato alla sola attivazione/disattivazione del wireless. Così facendo la spia del bluethoot resta sempre accesa, ma, come ho appena detto, posso scegliere di disattivarlo dal BIOS e in quel caso resta sempre spenta...

No, non ne sono sicuro, e infatti l'avevo ipotizzato qualche post più indietro, ma comunque non riesco a capire quale sia. Ora sto installando la current su quel computer in maniera da esser sicuro di lavorare con il software agiornato...

Scusa, ma dopo aver disabilitato o giocato da BIOS per essere sicuro che la wireless sia attiva, lspci te la fa vedere? Io ero rimasto che lspci ti faceva vedere comunque sempre tutte le schede PCI del PC. Se non riesci a visualizzarla come puoi settarla?

Zoros, quindi alcuni moduli possono interferire con lspci? Cioé, è possibile che il mio hardware non venga visualizzato perché un modulo è andato in palla?

Perché per me finché lspci non ci fa vedere una periferica wireless allora non possiamo fare niente.

Che ne pensate?

Effettivamente, visto che hai aggiornato il kernel, ridacci l'output di dmesg. In realtà nel vecchio dmesg non sembravano esserci problemi legati a firmware o ad altro, semplicemente la tua scheda non veniva proprio vista.

ma se una periferica esiste "fisicamente" sul sistema, non dovrebbe essere segnalata da qualche parte, a prescindere dall'esistenza o meno di un driver in grado di farla funzionare?

Effettivamente se lspci può sbagliare vediamo se qualcuno conosce un metodo alternativo. Purtroppo non sono sotto linux ma penso che qualche cat di un file sotto /proc o /sys potrebbe fare al caso nostro, no?

se non erro lspci si appoggia al file pci.ids http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/
non ricordo pero' in caso di hardware "troppo nuovo e/o non ancora classificato" cosa restituisca il dmesg
lspci dovrebbe vedere la scheda indipendentemente dai driver e/o moduli caricati

Infatti: a rigor di logica dovrebbe restiture un ' Unknown device' ma dovrebbe vederla comunque. Analogamente se non esiste il modulo per pilotarla o se per una qualche ragione non viene caricato.

Io azzardo 3 ipotesi:

1 - la scheda è disattivata via bios - ed è stato già detto

2 - la scheda è stata rimossa dal portatile

3 - la scheda è rotta

E con questo mi son giocato la poca credibilità rimasta :D

scusa, stai dicendo a me o a zoros? ad ogni modo questi sono i miei lspci e dmesg dopo aver disabilitato la connettività bluethoot dal bios ed aver riservato il pulsante apposito al solo wireless

questo bios ha praticamente un interfaccia grafica (non è più quello blu che ricordavo una volta, dieci anni fa) e ti assicuro che la scheda rìwireless è inequivocabilmente abilitata: c'è la spunta alla casellina affianco alla dicitura "enable wireless connection" o qualcosa del genere...
