Salve a tutti.
Ho un modem PCMCIA Huawei E620, che con wvdial/umtsmon funziona su openSUSE 10.3 (kernel 2.6.22.5) ma non su Zenwalk 5.0 (kernel 2.6.23.12). In sintesi, la configurazione di partenza con wvdialconf su SUSE procede fino alla fine (rendendo successivamente possibile l'avvio e la configurazione di umtsmon), mentre su Zenwalk si arresta subito.
Vorrei sapere se è possibile far funzionare il modem su Zenwalk con gli stessi strumenti o con altri programmi che utilizzino vie diverse per arrivare allo stesso scopo.

Ho separato il log relativo al modem in due parti: la prima è diversa, la seconda è identica.

Ti ringrazio, ma mi sarebbe utile una risposta più pratica.
Il programma vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux è solo la punta dell'iceberg: sono necessari diversi pacchetti in python e non so che cos'altro. Inoltre richiede wvdial, che già ho detto di non riuscire a configurare (a meno che la configurazione non avvenga per altre vie).
Dal file INSTALL presente nel tarball si ricava che il programma, con le dovute riserve, dovrebbe funzionare su Debian, Fedora, SUSE e Ubuntu; ognuna con esigenze proprie.
Comunque ho fatto un tentativo. Ho installato il programma, ho provato ad avviarlo da Konsole e ad ogni messaggio d'errore ho installato il pacchetto in python richiesto.

A questo punto mi sono impiccato. Ho provato ad installare anche gnome-python, gnome-python-extras e gnome-python-desktop, ma inutilmente: il programma non s'avvia.

per farlo funzionare?

La patch si riferisce al kernel 2.6.25, cioè l'ultima versione stabile rilasciata (http://www.kernel.org/). Beh, finalmente qualcosa si muove.
Raramente ho `profanato' il kernel, che tendo a considerare sacro e inviolabile. Comunque, dopo la notizia che mi hai fornito, posso aspettare fiducioso.

Se ti riferisci a vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux, tutti i messaggi d'errore riscontrati li ho mostrati in un precedente messaggio.
Non so in Slackware, che attualmente non ho sull'hard disc, ma il problema in Zenwalk è che, a differenza di quanto scritto in /var/log/dmesg, all'avvio vengono creati i dispositivi /dev/tts/USB0, /dev/tts/USB1, /dev/tts/USB2 e non /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyUSB1, /dev/ttyUSB2.
Se i dispositivi /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyUSB1, /dev/ttyUSB2 esistono, allora ogni programma (da terminale o grafico) dovrebbe andar bene: wvdial, kppp, networkmanager, umtsmon, vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux ecc.
Più di questo non so dirti. Tanto più che il mio modem all'improvviso ha deciso di non funzionare più neanche su SUSE. E non mi serve affatto che continui a funzionare su Windows (2000), che uso solo per fare questo tipo di verifiche.
