Ciao a tutti, ho installato la Zenwalk 6.0 su un PC. Poichè il kernel installato era il 2.6.28.7 ho deciso di installare il kernel precompilato di Pat (precisamente il 2.6.29.6-smp-generic) seguendo questa procedura. Ho riavviato la macchina senza alcun tipo di problema. Ma, dopo aver fatto questo, non andava più la connessione alla rete cablata eth0, cosa che non succedeva con il kernel vecchio. Allora da shell ho avviato netconfig e ho impostato tutto (così come avevo fatto quando era installato il vecchio kernel). Ho avviato la rete, ma niente da fare! eth0 non veniva rilevata da wicd. Quale può essere il problema? :-k

Ho aperto xkernelconfig con lo zenpanel. Tra i moduli non caricati ce n'era uno che si chiama cdc_ether (il nome è simile a quello presente nel link che mi hai postato). Così, da shell ho digitato:

ma in realtà si riferisce a una Broadcom usb.
Forse è questo l'inghippo?

Beh in effetti la scheda Ethernet, osservando l'output di lspci è la seguente:

Ma perchè allora mi riconosce una Broadcom USB? BOH?!? :-k

Un dubbio: mi conveniva installare il kernel huge piuttosto che quello generic? Oppure non cambia nulla in questo caso specifico?

Zenwalk e Slackware non sono la stessa cosa, se vuoi aggiornare
il kernel di zw ti suggerisco di scaricare la versione che ti interessa
da kernel.org e compilarla partendo dal .config originale.

Probabilmente mi ha tratto in inganno il fatto che comunque Zenwalk è Slackware-based... C'era un file readme di Pat Volkerding che riportava la procedura che ho visto dal wiki di questo sito e ho usato quella...

Ad ogni modo, mi sa tanto che ripristinerò il kernel 2.6.28.7, dopodichè cercherò di fare quello che mi hai suggerito (anche se, come si intuisce dal mio nick non ho un buon rapporto con la compilazione dei kernel... :D )

Per ".config originale" intendi il ".config" del vecchio kernel?

Offtopic: Ottimo, ho appena visto che è stata rilasciata la versione 6.2 ;)
