Introduction
The Gnome-Slacky project was born with the idea of porting, in a non-intrusive way, the most recent version of
Gnome (the 2.26.3 at the time of ISO burning) on Slackware 12.2.
The distribution is available as an ISO image and through torrent, so that slacky server's congestion can be prevented.

Requirements
System requirements are the same needed for running Slackware 12.2.

Download
Download through BitTorrent. You have to download this torrent and use a client like Azureus or Ktorrent or your favourite client in order to begin the ISO's download.
Direct download by darkstar.ist.utl.pt

Installation
Once you have dowloaded and burned the image (see Slackware for International Dummies for detailed instructions)
you can begin the installation!
Inside the iso you'll find the binary packages' tree called "packages", another directory called "install-settings" containing settings for the installer (the user doesn't have to be concerned of these settings) and an installation script called "install.sh".
Inside the "packages" directory the arrangements of files is exactly the same of the official GNOME project (http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME).
In order to begin the installation you have to open a shell (konsole if you're on KDE) and run the "install.sh" script as root.
A window in console will appear, letting you choose from:

1. Full (Gnome+Extra)
2. Basic (Only Gnome without extra)
3. All extra (Only extra Gnome pakages)
4. Remove All (Recovery of standard Slackware 12.1 packages)

Complete installation is advised!
After diverse minutes, depending on Pc's hardware and if no unexpected events occur, you'll have a complete Gnome installation!

Post installation
Once the packages' installation is finished, the question "Login di boot in modo grafico?" (Graphical boot login?) is asked. If you want to use GDM (Recommend for turning off, restarting, switching users straight from the desktop) you have to answer "si" (yes) to the question (the runlevel will be automatically changed to runlevel 4).
After that, the installer ends.

Finally you have to restart your pc. If you have chosen to begin with GDM an handy menu will appear in graphical mode! Otherwise, if at step number 3 you answered "no" (runlevel 3) you'll just have to type "xwmconfig" from console and choose Gnome as desktop environment. Type "startx" and Gnome, if no unexpected events occur, will start in few seconds!

Upgrading
If you already have a previous version of Gnome-Slacky you can simply use the installer in order to have the new one, the installer will deal with the upgrade; otherwise you can remove, always through the installer using the old cd, the previous version and then install the new one.

Guidelines
1) The installation is non-intrusive meaning that it doesn't modify the important core Slackware components.

2) The Gnome-Slacky cd is completely self-sufficient, comprehensive of all the dependencies and of the original slackware packages replaced during the installation. In this way they can be easily restored.

3) All the introduced and distributed software must be open source. Some non-open software required by gnome could be on the extra repository of gnome-slacky.

4) For every version the cd with sources (tarball, slackbuild, slack-desc) will be released as well.

5) The official gnome version is distributed; potential patches are reduced to the minimum and just for a correct functioning on slackware.

6) The cd is supplied with a minimal selection of software in order to have a complete gnome desktop, extra packages are supplied through an appropriate swaret/slapt-get repository. This grants a less onerous development in order to have always the last version in the shortest time from the gnome release date.

7) It's been released ONLY for the last stable version of slackware.

8) Only stable gnome versions are released.
