It's a matter of installation and configuration, not compilation (the driver is distributed by Canon as binary, not source code I guess). Try googling Canon LBP 2900 Slackware, you'll find some interesting links. I can't try what they propose, as I don't have this kind of printer. BTW I suggest next...
