Slackware 14.2 x86_64 stable is released!

The long development cycle (the Linux community has lately been living in
"interesting times", as they say) is finally behind us, and we're proud to
announce the release of Slackware 14.2. The new release brings many updates
and modern tools, has switched from udev to eudev (no systemd), and adds
well over a hundred new packages to the system. Thanks to the team, the
upstream developers, the dedicated Slackware community, and everyone else
who pitched in to help make this release a reality.

The ISOs are off to be replicated, a 6 CD-ROM 32-bit set and a dual-sided
32-bit/64-bit x86/x86_64 DVD. Please consider supporting the Slackware
project by picking up a copy from store.slackware.com. We're taking
pre-orders now, and offer a discount if you sign up for a subscription.

Slackware 14.2 is released!
After a long development cycle (including many betas and release candidates to get everything just exactly perfect) we're pleased to announce the availability of the new stable release. You'll find updates throughout the system, with the latest development tools and recent versions of applications, window managers, desktop environments, and utilities. The Linux kernel is updated to version 4.4.14 (part of the 4.4.x kernel series that will be getting long-term support from the kernel developers). We've brought together the best of these and other modern components and worked our magic on them. If you've used Slackware before, you'll find the system feels like home.

Build scripts for all kinds of additional software for Slackware 14.2 can be found on the slackbuilds.org website.

anche slackware all'inizio aveva queste tempistiche. un paio di release l'anno, a volte 9 mesi. Dopo sono diventati 12,18 e ora 31 mesi!!

veramente Slackware ha i pkgtools come package manager.
se intendi uno che risolva le dipendenze, no, ed e' bene cosi': e' uno dei valori aggiunti della distribuzione!

Se invece intendi qualcosa per scaricare i pacchetti c'è slackpkg, e se intendi per pacchetti non inclusi nel dvd aggiungici slackpkg+ che ha raggiunto un buon grado di maturità.

In effetti ho lasciato slackware perchè mi servervivano buone quantità di pacchetti di sviluppo per sistemi embedded, server, sicurezza e - per interessi personali - grafica e software astronomico di vario genere che mi toccava compilare o comunque installare tutte le dipendenze manualmente. La cosa diventava un po' artefatta e restava comunque problematico gestirne gli aggiornamenti. Tuttavia, questo passaggio a Fedora ha mostrato una distro decisamente di qualità più bassa e assolutamente meno curata nei dettagli.

Quindi quello che vuoi non è un package manager (per inciso apt non è un package manager ma un frontend di dpkg, idem yum per rpm) ma un repository di pacchetti.

Negli ultimi anni ne sono nati un po', magari ne trovi qualcuno con quei pacchetti che ti servono.
Prova su slakfinder.org per la ricerca
e http://slakfinder.org/slackpkg+/src/repositories.lst
per l'elenco dei repository conosciuti.

perché non considerate slapt?
per un po' l'ho usato in grafica con gslapt e non era malvagio, poi ho preferito farne a meno perché aggiornare in continuazione non mi va, salvo gli aggiornamenti di sicurezza;

slackpkg+ non gestisce le dipendenze (ma non sono molti i repository che pubblicano le informazioni sulle dipendenze) ma di suo ha il vantaggio di appoggiarsi ad uno strumento ufficiale (slackpkg) così da mantenere intatta la filosofia di slackware, e di gestire meglio la priorità tra repository. Ed è lo strumento che usa alienbob per tenere aggiornato il suo sistema .
