Ciao a tutti. Uso Slackware 9.0 con kernel 2.4.20.
<BR>Ho letto l´how-to in questo sito su come ricompilare il kernel e non ho trovato particolari problemi se non il settaggio vero e proprio all´interno di menuconfig.
<BR>Dove posso saperne di piu´ (magari in italiano) su le possibili scelte da fare?
<BR>Ci sono nomi che non ho mai sentito e la spiegazione della guida in linea che non e´ per niente esustiva.

Innanzitutto la ricompilazione del kernel ha senso
<BR>solo se hai bisogno di abilitare determinate funzioni
<BR>o di supportare dell´hardware non abilitato di default.
<BR>Altro discorso se vuoi passare dal kernel nativo
<BR>della Slack 9.1 al nuovo kernel 2.6
<BR>(attualmente giunto al 2.6.6).
<BR>La tecnica di compilazione è simile,
<BR>sebbene non del tutto uguale.
<BR>Ma, proprio per via delle numerosissime opzioni,
<BR>non potresti esplicitare che cosa ti serve abilitare
<BR>che già non lo sia?
<BR>Altrimenti il discorso sarebbe lunghissimo...

<BR>Non sono daccordo dal punto di vista che se tu lasci il kernel di base ti carica all´avvio tantissime funzioni e cose che non ti servono e che magari ti vanno in errori (ad esempio le 6 multiporte seriali che penso nessuno le usi).
<BR>Poi ricompilando il kernel il pc sarà molto più veloce (punto base della slackware è la velocità).
<BR>Stai atendo a ricompilare il kernel dal 2.4 al 2.6 (ho trovato molte difficoltà).
<BR>Se vuoi un consiglio ricompila il kernel inserendo il .config che trovi nel cd della slack (molte persone non sono daccordo con me, ma da esperienza personale te lo consiglio).

Hai in parte ragione,
<BR>dico in parte perché il kernel bare.i
<BR>della Slack in realtà non abilita
<BR>modularmente il profluvi di cose
<BR>che trovi invece a es. in Mdk.
<BR>comunque è vero, un kernel ben ricompilato
<BR>e cioè adattato al proprio hardware
<BR>garantisce velocità ed evita inutili guai.
<BR>Però Harp dovrebbe secondo me
<BR>dettagliare melgio, magari specificando
<BR>le voci che proprio gli rimangono oscure,
<BR>voci che magari qualcuno gli può chiarire...

Inanzi tutto grazie per avermi risposto.
<BR>Quello che vorrei e´, come ha detto Michele ricompilare un kernel giusto per la mia macchina. Il kernel che ho compilato è così come l´ho trovato in un CD di una rivista. E´ proprio questo il mio problema. Purtroppo non so rispondere a tantissime domande e speravo di trovare una guida in italiano, visto che quella in linea in inglese non mi chiarisce più di tanto.
