Se avete problemi con l'installazione e la configurazione di Slackware postate qui. Non usate questo forum per argomenti generali... per quelli usate Gnu/Linux in genere.

Regole del forum
1) Citare sempre la versione di Slackware usata, la versione del Kernel e magari anche la versione della libreria coinvolta. Questi dati aiutano le persone che possono rispondere.

Salve a tutti! Avrei un problema con i caratteri della mia Slack...
Praticamente dopo aver installato i driver fglrx i caratteri del desktop sono diventati più piccoli: ho anche provato dalle impostazioni di XFCE ad aumentare la grandezza dei caratteri, ma in questo modo aumento i caratteri anche delle altre applicazioni, e si ingrandiscono di parecchio!
Posto il mio xorg.conf sperando che si risolva....

Devi impostare una dimensione fissa in DPI per i font (scelta consigliata 96 DPI, Control Center -> Appearance & Themes -> Fonts) oppure una dimensione fissa per il tuo monitor (in xorg.conf edita la sezione relativa al monitor ed imposta il PanelSize).

Prima di tutto grazie per la risposta :)
Il problema è che tra le impostazioni di XFCE ci sono solo due opzioni per i font, e di DPI non c'è traccia!
Per lo xorg.conf cosa dovrei aggiungere?

Scusando il doppio post...finalmente sono riuscito a far partire l'X con dei caratteri buoni :D
Ho digitato:

EDIT: Ho risolto creando un file nascosto nella mia Home e salvandolo col nome di .xserverrc e inserendo:

Però ho notato che quando avvio il server X appare lo splash screen di XFCE (quello dove c'è il topo per intedirci) poi passano 2-3 secondi e riappare, e infine scompare ! So che è un problema superfluo, ma volevo sapere più che altro la motivazione ;)

Innanzitutto prego =) Non avevo capito/letto che usassi xfce, sorry

Il motivo per cui non funziona è che l'opzione sui DPI non va inserita nella section monitor ma nella section device (quella della tua scheda video).
Ho guardato un po' in giro, ma non ho trovato informazioni soddisfacenti sui DPI per il driver fglrx.
Per il driver nvidia, le opzioni sono:

Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
Option "DPI" "96 x 96"

puoi provarle con il driver fglrx e vedere nel log di X se te le accetta od ignora.

Se no, armati di righello (o consulta il manuale del monitor) e misura in millimetri la dimensione del tuo monitor.
Dai un occhiata su internet e verifica che altri abbiano rilevato le tue stesse dimensioni per il tuo modello di monitor, quindi nella section monitor aggiungi:

DisplaySize 332 207

(ovviamente queste sono le mie dimensioni, tu metti le tue)

Se no puoi avviare X con l'opzione --dpi e poi usare:

xdpyinfo | grep dimension

per sapere qual'è la dimensione calcolata da X.
