Schermo nero con driver ati

ciao, ho sfogliato le varie guide e i vari post sul forum per trovare una soluzione a questo problema ma non riesco proprio a risolverlo.

ho una scheda ati hd 3870 ed ho scaricato i driver catalyst 9.2. li ho installati sia direttamente con l'installer di ati che con il comando:

sh installer.run --buildandinstallpkg

ma quando lancio startx mi viene uno schermo nero con delle righine rosse e si blocca tutto e mi tocca a riavviare.
come posso fare per ovviare questo problema?

MMhh... Ho sempre avuto brutte esperienze con quei drivers...
Comunque... Controlla lo BusID che sia corretto, oppure prova versioni precedenti..

non so se possa esserti d'aiuto...

Io ho avuto lo stesso problema su una slamd64 con kernel 2.6.28, quindi nel mio caso il driver è a 64bit.
Ho risolto ricompilando il kernel , abilitando la voce

Bus options (PCI etc.) --->[*] Message Signaled Interrupts (MSI and MSI-X)

e installando i driver Catalyst.

ditemi voi dove sbaglio perche' le ho veramente provate tutte.
un'altra cosa (e forse il probelma e' proprio li), quando da console lancio il comando modprobe flgrx mi da questo messaggio:

sia con la versione 12.1 e quindi col kernel sopra citato che con la versione 12.2 di slackware.

e quando vado a fare lsmod per vedere se il modulo flgrx e' caricato non lo trovo nella lista che mi da.

questo messaggio ti dice che il modulo fglrx non viene trovato nel tuo sistema.
Hai controllato durante l'installazione se c'erano warning oppure errori?
(see dmesg) vuol dire guarda dmesg, lo hai fatto per vedere che errore ti da?

Da semplicemente degli errori!!! Problemi con l'MSI!! Mi è capitato anche a me!! Dovresti ricompilare il kernel e lavorare un po' sulle opzioni dell'MSI...

ok ma se e' presente come mai quando faccio modprobe fglrx mi da un fatal error o quando faccio lsmod nella lista di moduli non riesco a trovarlo?
Che significa lavorare un po' sull'msi? cioe' che devo abilitare quella funzione sul kernel?

Si!!
Il modulo lo compila e tutto!!! Ma chiaramente non lo carica perché li da quei due errori!!
Dovresti provare a ricompilare il kernel giocando con le opzioni relative all'MSI!!
Se ottieni qualcosa posta i risultati

ho ricompilato il kernel abilitando sia MSI che System V IPC come ho letto a giro sul forum ma si presenta sempre il solito problema. questo e' il resoconto presente nel file fglrx-install.log:

Prova ad entrare nella /usr/src/linux-2.6.27.7 e dare un bel make modules_install... Probabilmente il tuo link simbolico che punta ai sorgneti del kernel contenuto nella directory dei moduli non è corretto...
Controlla che anche il link /usr/src/linux punti esattamente a /usr/src/linux-<VERSIONE>, anche se credo che quest'ultimo non sia proprio necessario...
