driver ATI 9.*+slackware12.2 > black screen [RISOLTO]

Salve a tutti gli utenti e moderatori di slacky.eu
Scrivo perchè ho un serio problema irrisolto quasi da un mese riguardante questi benedetti driver ati e la mia scheda.

Non e' la prima volta che installo slackware, ne in questa macchina, ma ho aggiornato scheda video.
Ora monto una Sapphire Ati Radeon HD4670 512b gddr

Dunque, vi espongo cosa ho provato:
A slackware appena installata ricompilo il kernel e abilito le funzioni pci_msn_disable/enable che nella config di slackware sono tolte e i driver ne hanno bisogno, tolgo invece l'opzione di paravirtualizzazione. Dopo aver fatto cio' avvio l'installer, che non trovando moduli precompilati per il mio kernel li ricompila da zero per la mia distribuzione. Tutto ora va a buon fine, tutte le dipendenze sono soddisfatte e il log finale non segnala errori.
Questo passaggio ho provato anche a farlo creando i pacchetti di slackware col --buildpkg e installandoli, ma il risultato non cambia.
Riavvio il sistema, lancio un aticonfig --initial e verifico che il modulo fglrx sia caricato correttamente e cosi' e'. Faccio l'ottimizzazione dello xorg.conf che ora si presenta cosi'.

Ho fatto varii tentativi con lo xorg e utilizzando il mio personale modificato ovviamente per i driver ati, ottengo lo stesso risultato di quello generato da aticonfig.

Ecco cosa vedo quando faccio STARTX:
dopo mezzo secondo di caricamento lo schermo diventa nero, poi compare un trattino lampeggiante in alto a sinistra che rimane li all'infinito. A questo punto non mi è possibile interrompere in alcun modo il comando o usare la tastiera, l'unica cosa che posso fare è un hard-reset.

vorrei far capire che non viene nessuna scritta segnalante un errore di x come succede molto spesso,infatti lo xorg.log non viene generato, l'fglrx si carica.
(come windows manager predefinito ho l'xfce presente in sl12.2 e uso i driver ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run)

di queste ultime righe non capisco assolutamente il significato, oltretutto non sono riche generate al momento dell'avvio di x ma in precedenza e cioè quando si avvia slackware.

Vi chiedo, se possibile, qualche consiglio su cosa possa essere a causare tutto ciò.....sono disposto a fornire più log o info nel caso ce ne sia bisogno. thx in anticipo

Se faccio il logout e riavviao X allora trattino in alto a sx e via col reset!

Stesso identico problema... Me l'ha iniziato a fare dalla Slackware 12.1 con kernel 2.6.24.5 e con Drivers Proprietari 8.8

Da allora ho preso in considerazione l'idea di usare i drivers open.. E da circa 3 mesi che li uso definitivamente e sono completamente soddisfatto del loro funzionamento... Le prestazioni sono poco meno della metà, ma a me bastano...

premetto che non so assolutamente di questi driver open e gradirei un link, ma devo dire che questi driver ati proprietari hanno, si, causato problemi a molti, ma è anche vero che ormai hanno raggiunto un buon livello di performance e vorrei, nel limite del possibilie, utilizzare la mia nuova scheda video completamente anche fuori Windows. (inolte essendo questa scheda molto recente, uscita negli usa a settembre 2008, non so quanto possa essere supportata da driver unofficial)

quindi rilancio la domanda e chiedo ulteriori consigli o chiarimenti

quello che mi chiedo poi è se i requisiti degli ultimi driver siano soddisfatti e come eventualmente verificarli
(prendo direttamente dalle release notes del 9.3)

fino ad ora io non ho considerato questo problema. perchè guardando il log del make del modulo non c'è nulla di particolarmente rilevante e tutto va a buon fine....ma potrebbe comunque mancare qualche pacchetto o particolarri versioni che danno problemi con questa nuova serie di drivera.

inoltre non mi sembra che fra le known issues ci sia questo problema...e cioè che non si avvia per nulla x

So che potrà sembrare una cosa assai balzana (e di fatto lo è) ma ti consiglio di provare a disinstallare i drivers con

/usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh

cancellare la directory /etc/ati che non viene rimossa in automatico e reinstallarli.
È solo un tentativo, ma in questo modo sono riuscito a risolvere un po' di problemi inspiegabili che mi portavo dietro da un po'.

ciao m0rdr3d. purtroppo anche questo l'ho già provato più volte....anche perchè inizialmente no si installavano nemmeno.
le due directory utilizzate etc/ati e usr/share/ati le ho sempre eliminate manualmente nel caso l'uninstaller non l'avesse fatto.
inoltre di driver precendenti nell'ultimo tentativo fatto non ne ho messi.

...secondo me la chiave di tutto è il messages e il syslog del kernel....ma non riesco a capire come sistemare.....

altro dettaglio che potrebbe essere utile a qualcuno, è il risultato di

ho cercato in google e in qualche forum..ma per ora nessuna soluzione significativa.

due giorni fa finalmente sono riuscito a far partire coi driver proprietari il mio xfce

Nella sezione dello xorg.conf di nome "device" c'è la voce BusID "PCI:3:00:00". Questa voce con lo xorgconfig non viene gerata ma l'aticonfig --initial l'aggiunge sulla base penso del risultato che da "lspci", il quale associato ad ogni periferica pci mette il busid.
Siccome l'lspci mi da dei numeri formattati così **:**.* avevo provato a mettere il punto anche nello xorg ma non partiva nulla, allora ho tolto l'ultimo zero ed è partito. Precedentemente a questa cosa ho azzerato anche tutte le impostazioni del bios sul pci-express che potevano dare fastidio al kernel...come le frequenze di refresh del link forzate ecc ecc....insomma ho messo tutto in auto.

Vi copio il mio xorg nel caso vi possa essere utile e abbiate il mio stesso problemino.
comunque il consiglio generale su cose simili è intervenire su quel valore dopo aver guardato l'lspci ed eventualmente aspettare qualche secondo dopo che il trattino in alto a sinista comincia a lampeggiare, a breve si dovrebbe avviare X.

ps: consiglio di lasciare nella sezione monitor, il monitor autodetected dalla scheda ati, di eventualmente di togliere quei fastidiosi ZERI prima e dopo la voce "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" nella sezione ServerLayout, e di aggiungere la sezione dri se aticonfig non la genera/abilita
